Admissions and Continued Enrollment Policies
and Procedures
SECTA is a very competitive select school offering
students the upmost in a challenging academic, career and technical training. Reflecting
the higher standards of a select school, students maintain
the highest academic, attendance and behavioral standards at all times
at SECTA and within the CCSD guidelines. Graduating SECTA
students stand out in terms of marketability in business/industry and college
admissions placement.
Once accepted to SECTA, students must maintain the same standards
in which they were accepted under. As long as students
maintain the following standards, they will automatically be enrolled
for the following/next school year:
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher.
- Maintain excellent/good attendance as stated in the CCSD guidelines.
- Maintain excellent/good behavioral standards as stated in the CCSD
guidelines.
Students will be asked to return to their zoned high school when
one or more of the following conditions are met:
- Student earns 3 or more semester F's in one school year.
- Cumulative GPA drops below 2.0 GPA.
- Behavioral Standards fall below SECTA's expectations and/or a student
is referred to an alternative placement.
- Attendance exceeds the CCSD guidelines and/or the student receives
denial of credit due to attendance.
- Student earns a D or F for 1st or 2nd semester in a career and technical
major, introduction class to a career and technical major, or Tools
for Success. Seniors receiving a D/F for 1st semester of senior year in their
Career and Technical Major may be asked to enroll in Adult Education.
- Probationary students who do not improve their academic, attendance
and behavior within the SECTA guidelines. Students may only be
placed on probationary status one time during their high school education
at SECTA.
- Students earning a semester D or F in their career and technical major
are not eligible to earn their Career and Technical Certifications and
thus must return to their zoned high school.
Students will be placed on probationary status when one or more
of the following conditions are met:
- Student earns 1 and/or 2 semester F's within one school year.
- Semester GPA drops below 2.0 GPA.
Students will be placed on probationary/non-return status when
one or more of the following conditions are met based on 3rd quarter grades, in order to meet pre-registration deadlines for CCSD Summer School:
- Student earns 1 or 2 D's or F's or in any combination for
3rd quarter grades.
- Previous probationary students who earn a D or F for 3rd
quarter grades.
After second semester grades are posted, students whose academic
status improves to all C's or better for 2nd semester would not be on
probation.
Probationary students must meet the following conditions in order
to return to SECTA for the following school year:
- Students must repeat the failed classes externally/summer school
prior to the start of the next school year earning a C or better.
It is strongly suggested that students/parents utilize CCSD summer school
in which to do this. Students must register for summer school prior
to mid-May with the student's "alpha counselor". However,
for some families, external credit options may be utilized with the approval
of the student's "alpha counselor" and the SECTA administration. Failed
classes, however, cannot be made up during the school day. SECTA's
7 and 9 period days are in place for students to increase their academic
success, not repeat academic failure.
When a failed class is not offered externally/summer school, a student
must take the entire one credit (1st and 2nd semester) of either PE II
or one of their required social studies credits for the following school
year. Then the student will be allowed to repeat the entire failed
class during the following school year.
- Students must return a copy of their probationary contract signed
by both the student and parent and provide proof of successful completion
of summer school/external credit to the Admissions Office no later than
mid-August in order to return to SECTA. Failure to do so will result
in the student's schedule/registration material being withheld.
- The administration reserves the right to return probationary students
on "space availability" only for their current Career and Technical
Major. Probationary students are unable to apply for a Career
and Technical Major change until their status improves.
First Day of School: Students not attending school on the first day of
school may be withdrawn from SECTA. Students would need to reapply to SECTA
based on space availability. Students whose family situation does
not allow for attendance of the first day of school, must follow district
procedures and fill out a “prearranged absence” form with the
Deans' office prior to the first day of school.
